It is used for isolation and culture of Heamophilus species. Heomoglobin provides hemin (factor X) necessary for the growth of Heamophilus species, and IsoVitale X provides factor V (nicotinamide adenine dinuclotide, NAD). The three antibiotics added, Vancomycin, Bacitracin, and Clindamycin, inhibit the growth of other Gram-positive, negative and fungi.
